Client Name: State of Kentucky
Client Website: www.kentucky.gov
About: BluegrassNet Development was awarded the contract to design Kentucky's Data Warehouse for Substance Abuse Prevention. The purpose of this system is to make disparate data accessible for better decision making.
Through the development of utilization-focused data warehouse, program managers and prevention staff throughout the state will be able to access comprehensive data that will inform their decisions and bring about a more cost-effective utilization of resources in the prevention of substance abuse.
Solution: BluegrassNet Development has designed a broad data description model and implemented the model over 20 unique data sources. The data warehouse project has been implemented in Microsoft SQL Server with future expansion plans to an Oracle system. Through the use of Business Objects and the Microsoft .NET platform, we have designed a system that is easily updatable and end user friendly. The State of Kentucky IT department has adopted Business Objects as a viable solution for their engineers to keep all database systems updated. BGND is developing a set of protocols which follow the states infrastructure plan and we have developed a great understanding of their practices.
BGND is developing an ASP.NET set of programs to not only provide an interface to the end user, but we are also controlling access to the data through the use of the state's active directory system. The .NET platform allows us to connect to Business Objects for data management and reporting capabilities, thus allowing users to build custom reports from the vast data collection.
